Bringing superfast & reliable internet to Hong Kong
- Superfast internet is coming to Hong Kong, thanks to a partnership between 500-backed startup Transcelestial and local systems integrator Cyber On-Air.
- Together, the two firms will introduce Transcelestial’s wireless laser communications to new industries in the country, including network operators, education, retail, and small-to-medium enterprises.
- According to Rohit Jha, co-founder and CEO of Transcelestial, its CENTAURI device uses wireless lasers instead of fiber cables. This also enables data infrastructure to be upgraded without downtime.
- In the longer term, the startup aims to develop a constellation of small satellites positioned in Low Earth Orbit, allowing its laser network to connect continents across the world.

Reshaping insurance for the next generation
- “Buy two bottles of Evian, you’re being protected for six hours on the road.” Purchasing insurance in the digital age is as affordable as that, according to Andy Ann, co-founder and CEO of 500-backed YAS MicroInsurance.
- The startup recently launched several products that cover activities such as running, hiking, and biking. He believes these products tap into the younger generation’s idea of what insurance means.
- And the startup has the data to back this belief. YAS claims that it is currently activating 600 policies every week, and it aims to hit 1,000 per week by the end of the quarter.
- Andy also revealed that the startup has been building its own blockchain for the past 18 months, and it has been working with partners to educate and demonstrate how blockchain can be effectively harnessed for the insurance sector.
